One of the surest signs that the school year is about to end is the presentation of “Texas,” a musical featuring first graders at Rockdale Elementary School. The play was performed Friday in the elementary gym before an appreciative crowd of parents and other visitors.

King re-elected, incumbents fall

City of Rockdale voters turned in a split decision Saturday, re-electing Mayor John King but ousting city council members Nathan Bland and Joyce Dalley. All were by decisive margins. King out-polled Neil Switkowski by two-to-one.

Here’s what the corner of Burleson and San Andres looked like around sunrise Friday after most of a weekend 7-inch-rain pelted Rockdale overnight Thursday and early Friday. Numerous intersections and sections of some streets were flooded.

RISD ‘STAARS’ in test

The annual Rockdale High School Awards Ceremony is set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, in the RHS Gym. That’s a change from the originally scheduled date of Thursday, May 16.

Off they go

Friday’s scheduled 20th Alpha Tau Delta Dewberry Run was postponed two days to Sunday, because of the weather, and it couldn’t have worked out better. The “Cinco de Mayo” run drew 166 participants and netted $6,400 for sorority activities to benefit Rockdale.
