To submit Church News Service for grads at Baptist church Baccalaureate services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 19 at Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Rockdale for the Class of 2019. Baccalaureate is an old Latin word for a sermon and worship service designed specifically for graduates.

ROCKDALE CHRISTIAN SERVICES

RCS food pantry Rockdale Christian Services operates a food pantry at 224 West Cameron Avenue, open 10 a.m. until noon weekdays. Donations of non-perishable food items are welcome, especially one-pound bags of rice, pinto beans, macaroni and cheese, canned soups and peanut butter.

Police station ‘open house’ set Saturday

QUICK LOOK The public will get a chance to see the new PD with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, May 4. City Manager Chris Whittaker said the ribbon-cutting ceremony will feature the Communities in Concert Band and speeches at 10 a.m.

Trash Stash trying again

The City of Rockdale’s spring Stash Your Trash event, which was partially rained out April 13, has been rescheduled for 8 a.m. to 12-noon this Saturday. Those taking advantage of Stash Your Trash should enter Fair Park through the main gate at Mill Street and exit Gate 5 at Roberts Street.

Decision time on Saturday

It’s time to pick a mayor, two city council members and decide a contested school board race. There shouldn’t be any confusion where to vote. Both city and school district residents will cast ballots at City Hall between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Dewberry ‘Fiesta 5K, 1K’ ahead Friday in park

Alpha Tau Delta’s Dewberry Jam Fiesta 5K and Kids 1K Run/Walk is the first weekend in May this year, after several years with an April date, but there are a couple of differences from recent years. It’s on Friday (this one, 3) and it’s an evening event. Registration is 4 to 6 p.m.

Cleanups ahead at precinct barns through May

A coordinated effort to clean up Milam County in May has begun and it’s about to get bigger. More than 8,500 tires, and other items, were collected Saturday at the Precinct 2 County Barn in Cameron as a line of vehicles stretched for a half-mile at times.

For the first time in 124 years Rockdale’s has been formed to preserve the building’s facade in its 1895 Old City Hall is vacant. When the police department moved Victorian Era glory and several ideas have been floated.
