Peggy Ellis Morton

Peggy Ellis Morton passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, in the Phillips & Luckey Chapel. Burial will follow at Forest Grove Cemetery in the Forest Grove community.

Cruz Jerry Wayne Cruz Sr., born Nov. 14, 1964, in Rockdale, passed away on Nov. 20, 2024, in his beloved hometown. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Jerry was known affectionately as “Pops” to his family and friends.

Doss Coy Ray Doss, 77, of Colorado Springs passed away late in the evening on July 5, 2024. Bor n on Sept. 7, 1946, in Cameron to parents Emory Ray Doss and Nanc y Frances (Betchan) Doss, Coy was the youngest with two older sisters, Sandra and Barbara.

LaNell Mills

LaNell Mills 73, of Rockdale, passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 11, 2024, with family at her bedside. LaNell was born in Cameron on Oct. 14, 1951, to Irene (Frith) and Odie Mills. She grew up in the Milano and Liberty areas, going to Milano schools.

Lenora Ann Krueger

MILANO—Lenora Ann Krueger, 81, of Van Vleck passed away Nov. 7, 2024. She wa s born Feb. 20, 1943, in Cameron to Louie Wesley and Nellie Grey (Hildebrandt) Malone. She spent her childhood on the family farm helping pick peas and tomatoes which her father sold at markets.

Willard L. Ferguson

Willard L. Ferguson of Rockdale went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, at the age of 77, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Br yan surrounded by his family. He was born Sept. 16, 1947, to Robert and Elda Dubose Ferguson in Luling.

Johnny Carl Manning, 71, of Teague passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024. Services will be at 1 p. m. Mond ay, Nov. 25, at Phillips & Lucke y Funeral Home, 1041 US Hwy. 79, in Rockdale with Pastor Matt Higginbotham officiating. Visitation will be an hour prior to services.

Dorothy “Dot” R. Absnaider

Absnaider FLORENCE— Dorothy “Dot” R. Absnaider, 90, died unexpectedly on Oct. 12, 2024, in San Antonio, surrounded by loved ones. Born on March 29, 1934, in Rockdale, Dorothy was the third of six children born to Ernest and Tempie Rutherford.

Mr. Sellers KOSSE—Tommy Joe Sellers, of Kosse, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, at age 61. Tommy had fought a hard battle with glioblastoma the past eight months but was the victor over the disease as he has now entered Paradise.

Sutton

TAYLOR—Charles Ray Sutton, 72, of Taylor passed away Oct. 30, 2024, at the Christopher House in Austin after a short illness. Charles was born on May 24, 1952, in Taylor to Emil and Pauline Sutton. He grew up in 10th Street Methodist Church, where he was a member.
