Black History Month-African Americans and the Arts, Descendants and Excellence. The 2024 theme for Black History Month is “African Americans and the Arts” spanning the many impacts Black Americans have had on visual arts, music, cultural movements, and more.

Official sesquicentennial program to be Reporter’s FYI magazine

The official program of Rockdale’s 2024 Sesquicentennial celebration will be annual FYI magazine which this year will be brought to you by the newspaper, the City of Rockdale and the sesquicentennial committee.

Cole book signing Feb. 10

Rockdale native Susan Wallis Cole will hold a book signing and reading from 10 a. m. to 12-noon Saturday, Feb. 10 at Main Street Bookshop. The book is called Ella and Mac’s Bakery and from the back cover of the book, “Ella and Mac are sisters who have a dream. They love to bake!

The Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department held their annual All Fired Up Fundraiser on Saturday night at The Ranch which featured music by Kenny Orts and No Chance Band.

La Caretta restaurant joined the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce last week and a ribbon cutting was held on Thursday. The owners and employees asked that their last names not be published.

BBQ chicken fundraiser at KC Hall Feb. 11th

There will be a barbecue chicken fundraiser at the KC Hall on Sunday, Feb. 11, from 10 a.m. until sold out. Plates will include barbecue chicken, potatoes, pinto beans and dessert for $15. Attendees may dine in or take out.

Spaghetti fundraiser February 6 The Reporter made a mistake on the date in last week’s paper. The Rockdale Band Boosters will hold their annual spaghetti supper fundraiser on Tuesday, Feb. 6, in the junior high commons from 5 to 8:30 p.m.

Ponnaiya wins $4,000 scholarship

Milam County 4-H members competed at the Fort Worth Plant ID Contest on Jan. 20 at the Ft Worth Stock Show. We are extremely proud of our top senior individuals and junior individual who placed first overall and second place overall.

Milam County Historical Commission to meet Feb. 5

The Milam County Historical Commission will conduct its meeting at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5 in the Commissioners Courtroom at the Milam County Courthouse. The purpose of this commission is to preserve, protect and promote history within the county.
