Three solar projects have filed for tax abatements with the Milam County Appraisal District and two more projects will be coming to the area, according to County Judge Steve Young.

Guts and gory! 5K run kicks off music festival at the Kay

This year’s Rockdale Fall Music Festival begins with the apocalypse – the Zombie 5K Run and Trick or Treat 1K Run for the youngsters at the Kay Theatre. The event is set for 8 a.m. and a pancake breakfast is included with the race fee. Costumes are encouraged for the 5K run and the kids 1K.

Texas Country Title’s meet and mingle breakfast

Texas Country Title’s meet and mingle breakfast was held in conjunction to their joining the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce last week. The company first started in Milam County in 2001.

Voter registration push announced

There are 15,823,406 registered voters in Texas, a new state record, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s office. The Milam County Clerk’s office wants to ensure eligible residents are registered to vote by the Oct. 7 registration deadline.

Ten sentenced in district court

CAMERON–Ten persons were sentenced last week in 20th District Court. • Andrew Alan Nipps, 42, of Cameron, five and one half years prison term and ordered to pay $720 restitution after pleading guilty to possession of controlled substances (1-4 grams).

Curtis Courtney donated over $1,000

Curtis Courtney donated over $1,000 to the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce last Monday. Chair Cassidy Paschall accepted the check and displayed the Rockdale Chamber map Courtney’s Morning Star Publications out of Elgin publishes every four years for the chamber.

Police arrest local man for credit card abuse

POLICE REPORT Rockdale police investigated a credit card abuse case filed by the Rockdale VFD, and a Rockdale man turned himself in a few days later. Rajiha Shunquay Mitchell, 25, of Rockdale, who is a volunteer fire fighter, was arrested and charged with credit card abuse last Friday.
