King re-elected, incumbents fall

City of Rockdale voters turned in a split decision Saturday, re-electing Mayor John King but ousting city council members Nathan Bland and Joyce Dalley. All were by decisive margins. King out-polled Neil Switkowski by two-to-one.

Here’s what the corner of Burleson and San Andres looked like around sunrise Friday after most of a weekend 7-inch-rain pelted Rockdale overnight Thursday and early Friday. Numerous intersections and sections of some streets were flooded.

RISD ‘STAARS’ in test

It’s the first administration of the all-important State Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) Test, and using it as a barometer, the Rockdale ISD looks to be on target for very good results overall the 2018-19 school year.

Awards Day Wednesday at RHS Gym

The annual Rockdale High School Awards Ceremony is set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, in the RHS Gym. That’s a change from the originally scheduled date of Thursday, May 16.

Off they go

Friday’s scheduled 20th Alpha Tau Delta Dewberry Run was postponed two days to Sunday, because of the weather, and it couldn’t have worked out better. The “Cinco de Mayo” run drew 166 participants and netted $6,400 for sorority activities to benefit Rockdale.

Appraisals jump for Milam homes

If you got your 2019 appraisal notice from the Milam Appraisal District (AD)—and 21,000 of them were mailed out May 1—you probably already know this. Your home appraisal probably went up.

Seven draw court terms

CAMERON—Seven persons were sentenced last week in 20th District Court. Prosecutor Bill Torrey, listed case dispositions: • Matthew Robert mangum, 29, Pflugerville, five-year prison term after pleading guilty to possession of controlled substance (4-400 grams).
