25-year sentence for 2017 Cameron murder CAMERON—A 35-year-old Cameron man was found guilty of murder last week by a 20th Court jury in connection with the 2017 shooting death of a Cameron resident. Alvin Melton was sentenced to a 25-year prison term by the same jury which found him guilty.

Calls for are volunteer fire departments dispatched through the Rockdale Police Department during the past week included the following: • 6:48 p.m. May 7, power line arcing in tree, 200 block of Russell, Rockdale VFD. • 3:10 p.m.

‘Junkyard’ charges net arrest Friday

POLICE REPORT A 43-year-old Rockdale man, charged with 13 counts of bond forfeiture on an original charge of keeping a junkyard at 1300-1328 East Cameron (US 79) was arrested Friday by the Milam County Sheriff’s Department. Ira Richard “Richie” Thrasher Jr. was released on $6,500 bond Sunday.

County eyes ‘One-Stop’ offi ce plan

CAMERON—Milam County commissioners, meeting in a special session Thursday, heard County Judge Steve Young provide further details on his hope to consolidate most county offices into Cameron’s former hospital.

Museum gets visit, sets summer camp

CAMERON—It’s been a busy May for the Milam County Railroad Museum, located in downtown Cameron. Musician Pat Waters of “Drive Across Texas” fame stopped by to visit the museum and announced a summer camp for youngsters.

Service for grads at Baptist church A Sunday Baccalaureate service for the Rock-dale Class of 2019 will be held at Meadowbrook Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Baccalaureate is an old Latin word for a sermon and worship service designed specifically for graduates.
