Heifer sale $273,000-plus

The Rockdale Fair’s Commercial Heifer show raised at least $273,000 for Milam County 4-H and FFA youth Saturday. That was the total as of Monday afternoon, according to Cindy Hughes, RFA president, who said the books will remain open until midweek. Last year’s total was $296,425.

New Girl Scout Troops formed in Milam County

There are three new Girl Scout of Milam County troops in Rockdale, Milano and Gause for girls to join. Rachel Owens, Milam County Service Unit director, said girls will be able to “help make a positive impact locally and globally while having fun with new friends.

Project Graduation hosting chili supper fundraiser Friday

MILANO NEWS Milano Project Graduation will host a chili supper fundraiser on Friday prior to the high school football game. Cost is $7 for chili, fixings, tea and dessert. Serving will take place in the Milano Elementary cafeteria, located on the north end of the football field.

Reminders first: Gause Baptist Church will have their Fall Festival this Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Family Life Center, next to the church. Everyone is invited to attend. Then a Hallelujah Fest will be held at Stephen Chapel AME Church from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31.

Homecoming parade set Wednesday

QUICK LOOK Rockdale High School’s annual Homecoming Parade is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 17), from the Tiger Stadium parking lot to Veterans Park. The parade will form in the parking lot and march west on Murray Avenue toward the high school.

43rd Fair: Here we go

Rockdale is already assured of a better “big weekend” for the Rock-dale Fair in 2018, compared to one year ago. That’s because one year ago Luminant announced on “Fair Friday” it was closing both units of its Sand-ow Power Plant, ending a 65-year power generation era in Rockdale.
