Rockdale in the dark

Rockdale skipped fall and went straight from summer to winter Sunday. A wet cold front whipped through Central Texas Saturday with 5-inches-and-counting in rainfall, sending temperatures plummeting and triggering at least a half-dozen sizable power outages throughout town.

Services for longtime J-P set for Thursday

A memorial service for one of the longest-serving public officials in the history of Milam County is set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Milam County Cowboy Church. Twila Harris died Saturday at Baylor Scott & White Hospital after a long illness.

Early voting set to begin Monday

Early voting for the Nov. 2 general election begins Monday at four locations throughout the county. While there’s only one contested race at the county level, it’s a big one with Republican Steve Young and Democrat Jared Melde vying to replace incumbent Dave Barkemeyer.

Rockdale mom again charged with child injury

For the second time in 18 months a Rockdale woman has been charged with injuring one of her children. Lt. Stephen Goodrich said Michelle Marie Reese, 22, turned herself in Thursday on a warrant alleging injury to a child. She was released after posting $8,000 bond. Lt.

Here is the jail log for Oct. 9-15 from the Milam County Sheriff’s Department. Jail logs list all persons charged with offenses through the county jail docket. Charges may change during the process. Persons are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.

Friday’s homecoming crowd will be able to watch two competitions. The gridiron contest between Rockdale and Troy high schools and the bleacher battle between RHS girls, who will be vying for the most original homecoming mum of the night.
