These mothers shed glory on motherhood

On May 26th, 1852, H.M.S. Birkenhead troop carrier was delivering soldiers to war in South Africa. At 2 a.m. she struck uncharted rocks off Cape of Good Hope. Six hundred forty-two souls were on board including seven women and thirteen children.

Mothers are handy during snake season

Since Mother’s Day is coming up I have to tell you a story about mine. Mom, Dad and I are all three excited about the Jazz and Derby Party coming up on Saturday, but none of us could remember to order the tickets.

Telehealth Station now free through grant

Milam County has the most technologically advanced telehealth station in America! The station was developed and installed with the assistance of a grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield and our friends at Texas A&M.

100 YEARS AGO… J.D. Hamilton, Rockdale citizen, businessman and former constable of this precinct, was instantly killed when he came in contact with a fallen electric light wire on East Cameron Avenue near the Spa Depot.

A couple of times lately I have included recipes that have two spices that aren’t readily available around here: za’atar and sumac. I even looked in Austin at Central Market and even they didn’t have either of them.

Milam County Annex Cornerstone Leveling—The Milam County Annex building was blessed with a traditional Cornerstone Leveling Ceremony on April 23 by the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas. The Ceremony was well attended with over 50 masons from around the state.

100 YEARS AGO… One of the most distressing tragedies that ever happened in Rockdale resulted in the death of Velma Ashby, the 13-year-old daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. B. Ashby, who met her untimely end by coming in contact with a high-powered electric light wire.
