Population of Milam County in 2050?

In many ways Milam County is growing, but interestingly, the population of the county actually declined during the last decade. According to the U.S. Census, our population was stagnant from 2010 through 2020 by three individuals from 24,577 to 24,574.

LOOKING BACK

100 YEARS AGO… Continuous rains played havoc with the streams of Milam County. Little River, San Gabriel River, Brushy, Alligator, Elm and the Yagua, together with practically all of the smaller streams, were reported out of banks and over the bottoms.

Always be satisfied

I know we know people on social media have to go to work at some point. What I mean is not everyone but me can be on an endless vacation. Does that make sense?

In the opening of his short story, The Capital of the World, Ernest Hemingway notes that there is a joke in Madrid, Spain about how common the name Paco is. A father came to Madrid and put an advertisement in the personals of the local newspaper, El Liberal.

On Tuesday of last week, the US Senate did something somewhat remarkable: It passed a piece of legislation by unanimous consent. As in, no member of the Senate objected to it. What was this legislation that broke the partisan logjam that has long dominated politics?

Very good friends and very bad weather

First off some important information. AT&T has been suffering with a major outage for three weeks with no estimate about when service will be restored. This has caused Rockdale Christian Service’s food pantry to be without phone and internet service.

Samsung’s economic impact on Milam

This week I attended a meeting in Taylor with some of the Samsung representatives to learn more about the schedule for the new Samsung facility in Taylor. Some of the dirt work has already begun and by mid 2023 there could be as many as 10,000 individuals working to build the new facility!

100 YEARS AGO… The annual membership meeting of the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce was held, and in connection, as was the annual custom, a barbecue was served. The meeting was held at Mineral Park with the entertainment committee in charge of the eats, and needless to say it was a success.
