When I lived in Houston I always lived very close to all the jobs I had. When I moved to Clear Lake I had what was supposed to be a 30 minute commute in the carpool lane which often turned into an hour because of the endless construction on I-45 South. And I hated every minute of it.

Gary Ivy Selected for Veterans Service Officer—This week the Commissioners Court selected Mr. Gary Ivy as the new Milam County Veteran’s Service Officer. Gary is imminently qualified for the position as he currently works for the Texas Veterans Commission as the Northwest District Manager.

100 YEARS AGO… The annual County School Meet was coming to Rockdale in 1922. Probably a precursor to Rockdale Relays, but in addition to sports, academics were also part of the plan including debate, choir and spelling competitions.

As part of the Texas Department of Transportation’s Drive Sober. No Regrets. campaign for spring break, Milam County Sheriff’s Office and law enforcement officers across Texas will increase DWI patrols to identify and stop impaired drivers.

Dear editor, Rockdale Christian Services extends a heartfelt thank you to our community for their generosity in support of the “Brown House” food pantry. Even with our reduced operations, we were able to provide food to an average of 150 families (290 individuals) per month this past year.

What an operation they have going on at the KC Hall for their Lenten fish fries. It was run like a well-oiled machine and it was fun watching all of them do their jobs. The only thing I didn’t get a photo of were the finished plates.
