Everyone who knew Denice Doss—and that includes thousands of us—knows she left us far too soon last Tuesday. But, perhaps, not that many of us stopped to think she was one of the few persons in any community who was involved with, and deeply touched, its residents at so many phases of life.

What a difference a week makes. It was so hot week before last that I thought we were all going to die. But I am loving the rain and cooler temperatures lately. Naturally the rain started as I was delivering papers last Wednesday.

Free food program start date has changed

The date for the Texas Department of Agriculture’s free meal program for Rockdale children and senior citizens has changed.. The free meal program is now set to begin Oct. 5. The distribution site will be 225 North Main and will be open from 4 to 8 p.m.

YARD OF THE MONTH—September’s Yard of the Month goes to Sammie and Lynda Ford at 220 West San Andres. The Yard of the Month is awarded by the Rockdale Earth Day organization and the Ford’s will receive a $25 gift certificate to Bloomers Garden Center in Elgin.

I think about food all the time, but with this rain and cooler weather the things I want to eat will change. Something tomato-y and cheesy sounds good to me right now and this casserole sounds exactly like what I am looking for.

Ag boosters to hold virtual meeting Sunday
