MVFD Ladies Auxiliary spring garage sale set for May 6th-8th

Milano Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will hold their Spring Garage Sale on May 6-8 at the fire station in Milano. The sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, May 6-7, and then 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 8. The group is still seeking donations.

These junior high students each designed a poster for the 2021 Rockdale Earth Day Poster Contest. The winner, for the second year in a row, was Mariana Costillo with her winning poster, and Rockdale Earth Day Chairman David Melton and junior high art teacher Lani Young.

Rockdale graduate to be in Miss Texas pageant

Whitley Boyd will be representing Rockdale in the 2021 Miss Texas competition on June 26 as Miss Rockdale Fair. The Miss Texas Scholarship Program is part of the Miss America Organization.

Milam County pushes on for greater herd immunity

People vaccinated combined with those that have been infected with COVID-19 and survived are pushing up the immunity level in the county. “I am happy to report that our herd immunity in Milam County is now at 38%,” said Milam County Judge Steve Young in his daily email report.

County continues work against COVID-19

  Milam County is administering vaccinations to homebound people today. On Wednesday, the county will be helping in Williamson County. Thursday, the county has a clinic planned to give 500 second round Moderna shots in Rockdale. Friday, Milam County inmates will be given shots and from noon to 4 p.

COVID-19 death toll up to 47; vaccines available

COVID-19 has claimed its 47th person in Milam County. It has been one year since the first COVID-19 fatality was reported in the county. "The virus is still here in Milam County. It is alive and well. It is a killer. It can attack at any time. It does not discriminate.

Friday’s COVID clinic will allow walk-ins

On Friday, the county’s COVID-19 clinic will take walkins, so anyone 18 years of age or older can get a shot without an appointment. It will be faster if you call and get on the list: 254-697-7000. However, appointments are not necessary Friday.
