Rockdale’s Karter Puckett tied for f if th place among 39 young competitors at the STPGA Junior Golf Championship, held Aug. 3-5 in The Woodlands. Puckett, 11, is the son of Kyler and Sonora Puckett of Rockdale. A dedicated golfer, he spends many hours each week practicing at Rockdale Country Club.

The Rockdale Tigers opened preseason football practice Monday morning, with 66 players reporting for the first workout at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers will practice from 6 to 9 a.m. each day through Saturday before continuing workouts next Monday through Wednesday.

Rockdale Country Club hosted the annual Rockdale Alumni Golf & Friends Tournament over the weekend, with 53 golfers competing on 10 teams in the event. Three teams finished tied for the tournament championship after each carded a 12-under-par 60, forcing a playoff to determine the final standings.
