Summer strength, sports skill workouts to begin Monday

Rockdale Tigers Athletics are set to begin their summer strength and sports skill workout Monday, running through June 25. All athletes must have a physical on file to attend the workouts. The strength workout for boys, seventh through 12th grade, will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

All-District postseason honors announced for Lady Tigers, Bulldogs and Lady Dogs

Numerous Rockdale and Thorndale baseball and softball team members received All-District honors this season. The Lady Tigers also had two players named to the Academic All-State team. Senior Trinity Hurd was named to the second team, while senior Yaretzi Hernandez was named honorable mention.

There w i l l be an 18-and-up Churches vs. Churches Basketba l l Tou r nament on June 20, beginning at 9 a.m. The tournament will be held at Rockdale Full Gospel Church at 467 US-77 in Rockdale. Admission is free and there will be a concession stand available.

Lady Dogs The Thorndale Lady Dogs softball team came up a short against the No. 2 Ganado Maidens, 9-1, in the Class 2A Regional Finals last Thursday. The one game playoff loss ended the Lady Dogs amazing run through the playoffs.

De’Andre Stephens capped off his Rockdale High School sports career with a gold medal on Thursday. Stephens is the Class 3A State Champion in high jump with a jump of 6’10”.

Rockdale Tiger senior De’Andre Stephens is a Class 3A State Champion. Stephens brought home the gold with a high jump of 6’10” on his final attempt last Thursday at Mike A. Meyers Stadium in Austin.

Thorndale Lady Dog junior Bethany Preusse (L) returned home with two gold medals from two state-record throws at last week’s Class 2A State Track Meet at Mike A. Meyers Stadium in Austin. In the shot put, her throw of 48’9.5” set a new school record, well as a new girls Class 2A state record.

The Rockdale Tiger Booster Club held its 18th annual Golf Tournament and Crawfish Boil this weekend. Booster Club President Colby Fisher thanked all who helped put the tournament together and all of the sponsors.
