Mitchell riding high on PBR circuit

Ezekiel Mitchell didn’t evolve into a rodeo cowboy. In his mind, he was born to ride bulls and broncs, and rope steers.

Swim meet honors

Milam Giles participated in his first swim meet of the season in Schulenburg and earned a first-place r ibbon in the butterfly, a second- place r ibbon in both freest yle and medley relays, and a fourth-place ribbon in freestyle. Milam is the son of Ferlando and Dell Giles.

Second place in shot put

T’Niyah Miles, a member of the AAU Track Team Xtreme Force in Austin, received a second- place medal in shot put in a tourna ment over the weekend. T’Niyah will be a junior at Rockdale High School in the fall. She is the daughter of Vicky Miller and Charles Miles and granddaughter of Henry Miller.

Super Elite Team

Rockdale’s girls double team of Julie Bartsch (L) and Yolianna Castillo (R) were named to the 2023 Texas High School Coaches Association Super Elite Team for 3A tennis. The award recognizes student athletes across the state for their exemplary athletic achievement in tennis.

Eagles recognized for district awards

MILANO—The following players earned All-District recognition in District 27-2A baseball for their performances in 2023. Making the first team were Josh Millar and Andreas Rueles. Jackson Reyes was voted to the second team, with honorable mentions going to Taylor Wall and Anthony Valadez.

Lady Tigers earn All-District honors

District 19-AAA announced the All-District softball team and Rockdale High School was represented by the following Lady Tigers: First Team—Izabella Delgadillo. Second Team—Laylee Lankford. Honorable Mention— McKena Lopez.

Thorndale claims two MVPs awards

THORNDALE—The Bulldogs’ strong seasons earned several All-District honors for 2023 in District 27-2A. BULLDOGS— In baseball, Luke Merz was selected as the district’s Most Valuable Player by unanimous vote.
