UIL green lights summer workouts

The wait for high school sports is almost over. Starting on Monday, June 8, the UIL is allowing high schools to hold limited summer workouts. Sports have not been active since the UIL canceled all 2020 spring sports on April 17.

Softball league start uncertain

The Rockdale Girls Softball League has been hosting games and tournaments since the 1980s, but this year’s upcoming season is in limbo due to COVID-19 precautions. “Unfortunately, we are at a standstill,” RGSL President Pete Rubio said.

State basketball champ returns to alma mater

Last week, Aubrie King was named head coach of the Mumford High School boys basketball team. King, who started four seasons for the Mustangs, will replace Mike Scarborough. He led Mumford to the state tournament three times.

Two Tigers commit to Ohio college

RHS Seniors Ethen Hughes and Levi Baggerly signed with Defiance College last week. The two friends who have played with each other since freshman year will arrive to the Ohio campus as a package deal. “Playing alongside Levi again is like a dream come true,” Hughes said.

Miller, Cloud named top MVPs at virtual banquet

The Milano High School athletic program named its top athletes virtually on Tuesday, May 19. The posting by MHS Athletic Director Wendy King was published to Facebook as a replacement of an in-person sports banquet typically held every year in May.
