MHS hoops has many new faces

When the Milano Eagles play Rosebud-Lott on Friday, they will have a different look from last year’s team coached by Kyle Edwards with all-district guard Christian Thurman.

Thorndale still a contender

Last year, the Thorn-dale Lady Bulldogs fell short of the Region IV tournament when they fell to San Saba, missing out for the second straight year. What the defending district champions have going for them is a lot of experience.

The Rematch

For the second straight year, Rockdale is playing Grandview in the opening round of the state football playoffs. The difference between this year and last year, the Zebras are the defending state champions.

Tigers spray Bees in district finale, 53-7

Rockdale closed it’s district schedule in a positive manner with a 53-7 win over Academy Friday at Tiger Stadium. Jace Robinson tied his career record of five touchdown passes in a game and Cam’Ron Valdez rushed for more than 200 yards for the seventh time this season.

Luna runs at state meet

Ivanna Luna’s sophomore season came to an end on Saturday morning finishing 66th out of 150 runners with a time of 13:05.87 at the Class 3A cross country state championship in Round Rock. “It was a great experience,” said Cheryl Meuth, Rockdale High School cross country coach.

Rockdale’s Locklin passes at 83

Rockdale’s first ever professional athlete, Billy Ray Locklin, passed on Friday afternoon at the Seton Medical Center in Round Rock. He was 83 years old.

Eagles fall to top-ranked Holland in season finale

Milano’s 2019 season came to an end Friday night with a 69-2 loss to Holland, Texas Football Magazine’s seventh-ranked team in Class 2A-I and the only undefeated team in District 13-2A-I. The Hornets got off to a fast start with a 40-yard touchdown by Clay Cooper in the opening minute.

Lady Bulldogs fall to Burton in regional quarterfinal game

Thorndale’s winning streak of more than a dozen games came to an end on Tuesday night when the Lady Bulldogs were defeated by Burton 22-25, 23-25, 18-25 at the Giddings High School Gymnasium. The loss kept them short of the Region IV tournament in Brenham coming up this weekend.

RJH girls host Cameron next week Rockdale Junior High basketball team played Lexington on Wednesday after press time. The game was originally scheduled for Thursday evening but was moved to the day before. The Lady Tigers play next on Thursday, Nov. 21, when they host Cameron in RJH Gymnasium.
