GIDDINGS MEET— The Rockdale Tigers boys’ varsity cross country team (above) came in first place last week at the Giddings meet. Winning has become another day in the office for these long-distance runners. Tiger Jonathan Fuller also came in first as an individual with a time of 17:29.

ROCKDALE HIGH VOLLEYBALL

The Rockdale Lady Tigers opened district play last Friday and lost to a good Lexington squad. The Lady Tigers lost in three sets, 15-25, 15-25 and 13-25. Former Lady Tiger and current Head Volleyball Coach Morgan Laughlin shared, “We struggled passing which is one of our strongest points.

IN MEMORIAM

Former Thrall athlete and member of the Thrall High School class of 2024 Avery Koonce was found dead in her dorm at the U.S. Air Force Academy near Colorado Springs, Colorado. Koonce was a cadet and a member of the Air Force track and field team. The Air Force is currently investigating her death.

TP&W FISHING REPORT

Granger GOOD. Water lightly stained; 85 degrees; 0.32 feet above pool. Black bass are fair on topwaters and crankbaits fished in shallow water. Crappie are good on jigs fished over cover in 4-12 feet of water. White bass are fair along roadbeds with many small undersized fish.

Rockdale’s long distance runners competed at Lexington last week. The boys varsity team (above) won first place. The girls varsity (at right) came in fifth. The sub-varsity boys placed first and the girls also came in first place.

MILANO EAGLES FOOTBALL

The Milano Eagles had last week off and will travel to Moody on Friday night to take on the 0-3 Bearcats. The Eagles are 0-2 after losing to both Axtell and Bosqueville. This is the last game before district starts on Friday, Sept. 27, against Iola. Friday’s game against Moody has a 7:30 p.m.

Congratulations to the Milano Lady Eagles cross country team for winning the recent Milam County Tri-Meet.

Bulldogs claim second victory

RIESEL—The Bulldogs are on a roll and I’m sure it does not surprise anyone. Thorndale is 2-1 after beating the 1-2 Riesel Indians on the road. The final score of this contest was Thorndale 27, Riesel 6. Thorndale went to the air on three out of four of their touchdowns.

THURSDAY’S TIGERS

The Rockdale Tiger JV squad traveled to Lexington last week and came home with a loss, 44-20. Standout players for this game were—OL McKasson Casas, QB Slayde Harris, WR Alex Cooper, LBs Garrett Hutton, Kevin Rodriguez and Kendrick Henderson.
