The Milam County Historical Commission hosted the First Friday Social at the city library on Oct. 5. The monthly sessions are designed as a get-together for Rockdale residents, including new residents and any other interested persons. Light refreshments are served. Hours are 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Milano FBC to host Gospel Fest

Milano First Baptist Church will host a Gospel Fest from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday. The event will include lots of Christian music, along with free kid train rides, bounce house, play area for the kids and free hamburgers, hot dogs and homemade cobblers.

History buffs will celebrate ‘Camino Real’

Fifty members of El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail Association (ElCat) will be in Milam County Oct. 11-12 for the annual membership meeting, which will honor Rockdale resident Joy Graham and give public tours of rarely-accessible historic sites to the public.

Thursday was the first day of school in he 2019-2020 term in the Rockdale ISD and for the first time in several years the district recorded a gain in first-day attendance. A total of 1,468 came to classes in the district’s four campuses, up three from 1,465 the first day of 2018-19.
