Taylor Rodeo officials crowned a new queen July 17 during the three-day run of the annual Taylor Rodeo. Tinsley Streit, middle, is the 2021-22 rodeo queen. Standing with her are 2019-21 queen Mallory Randig and Taylor Rodeo President Edwin Stojanik.
Due to heavy rains and the fear of vehicles getting stuck in the Appelt’s Hill Hall parking lot, the 57th annual Appelt Family Reunion was moved to the American Legion Hall in Hallettsville on Sunday, June 6.
The next thing coming up that I’m excited about is sweet corn. I love it just about any way it’s served, but this salad is delicious this time of the year when the corn is good.
You don’t have to use jumbo lump crab meat. Any kind of crab will do.

Springfield Missionary Baptist Church will hold a barbecue fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 14
Plates with sausage, chicken and brisket with all the trimmings will be available for pickup for $12.

Fiddler, vocalist and band leader Paul Schlesinger of Taylor was inducted into the Western Swing Music Society of the Southwest (WSMSS) Hall of Fame in Lawton, Okla.
He was lauded for promotion and performance of western swing music.

It is certainly a dreary morning for July. Where is the sunshine? A perfect day for allergies. The reason I know? Mine are horrible. Oh, well, it could be a lot worse. I’m able to be up and around.
