Appelts hold 57th family reunion

Due to heavy rains and the fear of vehicles getting stuck in the Appelt’s Hill Hall parking lot, the 57th annual Appelt Family Reunion was moved to the American Legion Hall in Hallettsville on Sunday, June 6.

The next thing coming up that I’m excited about is sweet corn. I love it just about any way it’s served, but this salad is delicious this time of the year when the corn is good. You don’t have to use jumbo lump crab meat. Any kind of crab will do.

Area musician named to hall of fame

Fiddler, vocalist and band leader Paul Schlesinger of Taylor was inducted into the Western Swing Music Society of the Southwest (WSMSS) Hall of Fame in Lawton, Okla. He was lauded for promotion and performance of western swing music.

COVID-19 takes another life in county

Milam County Judge Steve Young announced the grim news Tuesday night: another death from COVID-19. “Again, I am saddened to report the death of another Milam County resident who died as a result of the COVID-19 virus,” he wrote in an email. “This brings our COVID-19 death toll in the county to 53.
