Temple College to offer 4 health-care programs

The Temple College Business and Continuing Education Division will offer four healthcare-related training programs in Taylor this fall. All four programs will enable interested residents to train for a new career in a year or less.

Theater camp

These kids participated in the Milam Community Theater’s annual drama camp program recently. There were three separate weeks for the camps. This year’s camp production was “Charlotte’s Web.” Over 125 children ages 6 to 18 participated in the production sold out crowds. Submitted photo

$4 million gift to benefit justice center at Prairie View A&M

A $4 million gift from The Brown Foundation, Inc. to Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) will support President Ruth J. Simmons’ Strategic Initiatives, including the work of the Ruth J. Simmons Center for Race and Justice.

100 YEARS AGO... The board of directors of Rockdale Chamber of Commerce met with all 10 members present. The Kolb bridge on Brushy Creek was reported to be in bad condition, practically impassable.

Rockdale Chamber of Commerce named Rustic Charm Decor & Boutique, 117 E. Cameron Ave., as the Business of the Month. They carry clothing, hats, jewelry, decor and body care products.

MCT to present ‘Charlotte’s Web’ Milam Community Theatre will present “Charlotte’s Web” at their location at 408 South Columbus Avenue in Cameron. Upcoming performances are Friday and Saturday. Both performances are at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5, with children 3 and under free.

A side dish and a pasta dish

With all of us doing lots of grilling during these summer months I thought I’d share a side dish that goes well with simple grilled meat. I’ve made this several times and it checks off a number of things I like: it’s savory, salty and easy. This recipe goes by many names but they are all the same.

PARADE, MEAL—The City of Milano will hold its annual Independence Day parade on Saturday. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. in the football field parking lot. There will be a free community hot dog meal immediately following the parade at the Milano Civic Center.
