The Star of the Republic Museum is filled with historical exhibits. This display greet visitors in the entryway of the museum. The Colt Walker was developed by Texas Ranger Capt. Samuel Hamilton Walker and firearms inventor Samuel Colt. Republic of Texas currency.

End-of-year special at the junior high

Rockdale Junior High wants to celebrate a successful year for staff and students. On May 25, we will celebrate students during our End-of-Year Awards Assemblies for sixth and seventh grades. Each teacher will recognize one student who has exhibited academic excellence for the school year.

Yard of the Month

Rockdale Earth Day has awarded the home of Ward and Kathryne Roddam, 1604 Skyles, the Yard of the Month for May. The Roddams will receive a $25 gift certificate to Bloomers Garden Center in Elgin. Yard of the Month nominations are welcome and are due by the 23rd of each month.

Milam County Girl Scouts acts of service Girl Scouts of Central Texas (GSCTX) will celebrate their centennial, the 100th anniversary of the first Girl Scout troop formed in our area in 1921.

Chicken thigh recipes hot/cold

I ran across this crock pot recipe and it sounds interesting to me. And it looks very easy. Definitely use thighs in this one because I think breasts would overcook. Thighs will not overcook even if you have the crock pot going all day while you’re at work.

Remember to stay safe on Memorial Day

During the 2019 Memorial Day weekend in Texas, there were 360 DUI-alcohol related traffic crashes, according to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Those crashes killed 16 people and seriously injured another 34.

RISD retirees honored

Three teachers, who are retiring after this school year, were honored May 6 at a Recognition Reception in the Commons of the Rockdale Junior High School.
