Blacksmith demo to be held April 5

Abe Doss will demonstrate historical blacksmithing skills at the I&GN Railroad Depot on Saturday, April 5 from 1-4 p.m. Doss will demonstrate artistic blacksmithing and talk about the process. The Depot’s blacksmith shop is a replica of what an early 1900’s shop would look like.

Easter egg hunt set for Thorndale

St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Thorndale 4-H Club are hosting an Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday, April 19, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church located at 101 N. Third St. in Thorndale.

Cole book signing Saturday

Rockdale native Susan Wallis Cole will hold a book signing and reading from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 29 at Main Street Bookshop. The children’s book is called Ella and Mac Want A Dog which is about Cole’s real-life daughters, Ella and Mackinley Cole, who are determined to get a dog.

Council forum slated for April

The Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Rockdale Downtown Association (RDA), will hold a City Council Candidate Forum at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, in the Patterson Center.

BENCH DEDICATION

Members of Rockdale’s Thursday Reading Club dedicated a bench on Monday morning at the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library to Dr. Lucile Estell, a long-time member of the club, as well as being an advocate of education, community and historic preservation.

Salads for springtime

Last spring I wanted to make pea salad, but mom poo pooed that idea because she doesn’t like it. Dad will eat it, but he doesn’t love it. It’s also good for diabetics because peas have a lot of fiber, so I’m going to make it this year and I’ll have it mostly to myself.
