Soul food recipes

Kyle’s Kitchen Since February is Black History Month, let's cook some soul food this week. But don’t worry, these recipes aren't mine. I found them all on websites run by Black people. Mom's side of the family never made greens of any kind, so mom never learned how to make them.

ORGANIZATIONS

MILAM COUNTY JAIL LOG

Jail log lists all people charged with offenses through the county jail in Cameron. Charges may change during the process. Persons are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.

One felony arrest this week by RPD

Rockdale Police Officers made one felony arrest during the past week: • Jesus Eduardo Limas, 17, Rockdale, was arrested by Ofc. Davis for possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone (less than 1 gram) and assault causes bodily injury/family violence.

FIRE CALLS

Responded to: • 214 Boga along with Atmos Energy for a smell of gas on Feb. 4 at 7:44 p.m. • 352 North US 77 for a fire alarm on Feb. 5 at 12:34 p.m. but were unable to locate. • North FM 486 at FM 3061 for a downed tree on Feb. 7 at 7 a.m.

Having a ‘do-over’

Remember when we were all on Zoom? Back in the day I would meet with a great friend on Tuesday mornings over Zoom and we would go through the Book of Psalms. We always had more questions than we had answers and I was always challenged not only by God’s Word but also by the conversation.

CHURCH NEWS

Cameron Methodist hosting Vineyard Voice First Methodist Church at 208 W. Second St. in Cameron is hosting Vineyard Voice Choir, a multi-generational vocal performance ensemble, at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 2. Admission is free. A freewill offering will be taken during the event. See vinyardvoicechoir.

Spaghetti dinner band fundraiser

Rockdale Band Boosters will hold their annual Spaghetti Supper fundraiser on Monday, Feb. 10, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. in the junior high commons. Tickets are $12 and plates include spaghetti, salad, rolls and a drink. Desserts made by band students will be available for sale.
