Jubilee Days a big hit over the weekend

Rockdale Fair Association’s Jubilee Days were a big success Wednesday through Saturday of last week and included a carnival, arts and crafts, a car show, bounce houses, goat roping, a pet pageant, lots of food vendors, a barbecue cookoff, cornhole and 42 tournaments.

Hans Christian Anderson gave us the story of the ugly duckling: how one large, ungainly, gray duckling was born within a flock. As Anderson tells the story, the ugly duckling was mocked and teased so much that it ran away. But wherever the ugly duckling went, it was made fun of.

GRAND OPENING

Hodge Podge Etc. held a successful grand re-opening on Saturday at their new location at 339 E. US 79 just past the US 77 overpass. Attendees enjoyed a charcuterie spread by Rey Mata and Moon Brew Coffee Co. provided coffee and desserts.

Re-crowning of The 1895

The bell tower went back to the top of The 1895 on Tuesday after more than 85 years just in time for Rockdale's Sesquicentennial Celebration.

For this article, let’s talk about unemployment. This is an unpleasant topic, but it is an important one. Unemployed folks represent an available workforce for a local employer. Most unemployment is short term as folks transition from one job to the next, lasting only a month or so.

EASTER EGG HUNT

Friday morning hundreds of kids, ages 0 to 7, had fun hunting for Easter Eggs at Fair Park. This annual event is sponsored by the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce and always draws a big crowd of kids, adults and grandparents.
