School board recognition month

January is School Board Recognition Month and Rockdale ISD is celebrating its trustees for their dedication and commitment to the district and its students.

REAL FIRST ROCKDALE BABY OF 2024

We goofed last week thinking Kane Quinney was the first baby of the year who was born on Jan. 7. The Reporter got a call on Wednesday morning after the online edition came out from Candace Timmerman whose baby, Ella, was born two days prior to Kane on Friday, Jan. 5.

MARTIN LITHER KING DAY

Icy, cold weather may have canceled the planned MLK Day parade, but Grand Marshall Rev. Danny Mitchell delivered a message of unity to both customers and employees at Walmart on Monday morning. The company provided a cake and cookies.

County, cities update Hazard Mitigation Plan; meets Jan. 30

In coordination with Milam County, the cities of Rockdale, Cameron, Thorndale, Buckholts and Milano are updating the Milam County Hazard Mitigation Plan.

Country Meadows becomes Impact Family Wellness

Country Meadows Clinic will be under the ownership and management of Impact Family Wellness, a healthcare provider who delivers high-quality care through a membership-based model called Direct Primary Care, starting March 1.

Milano High School to host Miss Globe pageant

Milano High School will hold their annual Miss Globe pageant at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, in the high school cafetorium. The pageant is a fundraiser for Project Graduation and will include a silent auction. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children and senior citizens.

Custom car, truck show Jan. 20-21 The a n nu a l Te xas Showdown Freedom Rally Custom Truck and Car Show will be held in Downtown, Texas (9112 North FM 908) Jan.2021. There are many categories for the vehicles as well as vendors and a chili cookoff with monetary prizes.

ORGANIZATIONS

Rockdale Rotary Club meets the first, third and fourth Tuesdays of each month at the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department from noon to 1 p.m. Lunch is provided. Rockdale Noon Lions Club also meets at RVFD on the first and third Wednesday of each month with lunch provided.

Milano powerlifters perform well in Buffalo meet last week

The Milano boys and girls competed in a powerlif ting meet Jan. 10 in Buffalo and did quite well. (See Sports, page 9A). These kids practice in the early mornings before school. True dedication to their sport. BASKETBALL— Basketball is still in season.
