Milam-Burleson water summit draws 300

Groundwater experts came to the Caldwell Civic Center on Aug. 17 to speak at the ninth annual Milam and Burleson Counties Groundwater Summit. About 300 people attended the summit this year.

Substitute teachers training set for Sept. 7

Mandatory training for all new RISD substitute teachers will be held Thursday, Sept. 7, from 9 a.m. to 12-noon at the Rockdale ISD Conference Center at 1205 Murray Ave. This training will include processes for the automated substitute service system Rockdale ISD has implemented.

Rockdale MDD to host open house about Rockdale’s future

The Rockdale Municipal Development District (RMDD) will host a Rockdale Mid-Century Plan Community Open House at Patterson Civic Center from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29. A process is already under way to update Rockdale’s comprehensive plan which will take our city into the year 2050.

A field on CR 306 caught on fire Tuesday afternoon and was a little too close for comfort to Rockdale Intermediate School. Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department, aided by Milano and Thorndale VFDs, had the fire put out very quickly and stayed there overnight to make sure the fire wasn’t rekindled.

Holliman-Tuma Family Reunion set for Sept. 3 The 92nd annual Holliman- Tuma Reunion will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, at Rockdale VFW, 978 W. Cameron. A fully-catered barbecue meal of beef brisket and sausage with all the trimmings will be served at noon for $17 for adults.

Three recipes using tarragon

Idon’t use tarragon often enough and I should fix that. There is a creamy chicken dish I used to make with tarragon in the sauce. I need to find that recipe. In the meantime, here’s a shrimp salad recipe using tarragon.
