New countywide burn ban, effective at 12:01 p.m., Friday, October 7, 2022

Commissioners: The Chief of the Chiefs requests a new burn ban be implemented before the weekend.  Therefore, attached is a new County wide burn ban, effective at 12:01 p.m., Friday, October 7, 2022.  This matter will be on the October 11, 2022 agenda for further consideration.

BUDGET INN IS CLOSED

Judge Jerry Waggoner fined the Budget Inn $32,000 for bulding code violations. The owner offered to close the motel for a reduced fine. The Rockdale City Council has adopted standards that allowed for this enforcement. This decision will not affect the China Buffet Restaurant.

Mike Brown's funeral information

Mike's services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, October 15 at the funeral home. Visitation will be Friday, October 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. also at the funeral home.

RPD update on wild police chase Thursday

On Sept. 22 at approximately 7:15 p.m. Rockdale Police Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a white pickup operated by Kyle Jay Jones, who had active felony warrants through Travis County.

Minerva Homecoming set for Sunday

The annual Minerva Homecoming will be held for the first time in three years on Sunday, Oct. 2. It is a time to visit old friends and meet neighbors for a noon covered- dish meal at Minerva Community Center, 378 CR 232 Loop.

Sandow Lakes Ranch (SLR) recently presented $2,250 to eight local volunteer fire departments: Rockdale, Milano, Thorndale, Lexington, Tanglewood, Cameron, Minerva and Rosebud. These departments responded to two separate fires on the SLR property.

Construction to begin on The 1895’s front façade

Vision Historic Preservation Foundation (Vision Rockdale) announces it will begin Phase One construction of the restoration of The 1895 in September 2022. Phase One encompasses restoring the south façade of the building to its original Arthur O.

MFVD pancake supper October 8th

RHS Class of 1964 reunion October 4

The RHS Class of 1964 will hold a reunion/class get-together from 3 to 8 p.m. Oct. 4 at Rockdale Country Club. The event will include hamburgers with all the fixings for $8.50. Water and iced tea will be provided with the meal. Sodas, mixed drinks and beer may be purchased separately from the club.

Cancer claims former Reporter editor Brown

Mike Brown, 72, who retired two years ago after a 46-year career with The Rockdale Reporter, including 22 years as editor, died shortly af ter 2 p.m. Tuesday at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple with his wife Sue by his side.
