Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke will make a campaign stop in Rockdale at 6:30 p.m. Friday at The Kay Theater. O’Rourke and incumbent governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, will face off in the general election on Nov. 8.

Library coffee scheduled for Friday morning

The August First Friday Coffee at the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday. This month’s sponsor is Hodge Podge Etc., a new downtown business selling vintage and modern home decor, to be located at 223 Ackerman upon opening over Labor Day weekend.

School supplies, teacher breakfast August 8th-9th

A school supply giveaway at Murray Street Church of Christ will be held on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at 1301 Murray Ave. Supplies have already been collected and kids and adults can drop by and to fulfill their lists. On Tuesday, the church will have a Teacher Appreciation Breakfast at 7 a.m.

City gives pool closure dates

The City of Rockdale announced that the city pool will be open through Sunday, Aug. 14. After Aug. 14, the pool will be open on weekends only until Sept. 4.

A most bizarre crime story came to an end over the weekend in Rockdale, thanks to an effort between the Rockdale Police Department and an eagle-eyed Rockdale citizen. Glen Boswell, 31, a suspect in a capital murder case in Temple, was arrested by Ofc.

Free school meals for all students

Rockdale ISD Child Nutrition department has announced the district will provide free meals for all students for the 2022-23 school year. The meals will include one entrée, one choice of milk and student’s choice of fruit and vegetables for both breakfast and lunch.
