LEGION OFFICERS—On May 2, new American Legion officers for Post 358 were sworn in Finance; Cecil Calvin, Judge Advocate; Jeff Nicholas, Sargent-at-Arms; Tim Guthrie, Service and pinned at a dinner celebrating their 100-year anniversary. New officers are (L-R) Rod Officer; Kenneth Callahan, Historian; Larry Drabek, Executive Committee; Maxie Jackson, Stewart, Commander; George Bunch, Vice Commander; Michael Lee, Adjutant; Jim Foster, Executive Committee; Ken Clark, Executive Committee and Frank Garcia, Range Manager.

BUSINESS OF THE MONTH—Radio station KRXT is the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce’s business of the month for May. On hand for the honor are (L-R) Jay Davis, Lori McGregor Kolar and Charlie McGregor. The station is located at 1095 West US 79 and they can be reached at 512-446-6985. They are on the radio at 98.5 FM where they have been since February 28, 1989.

Reflections on an ‘amazing year’ at Rockdale Intermediate

What an amazing year it has been at RIS! I spent the weekend reflecting on the past year and can’t believe all we have accomplished. We began the school year and soon had to send home two grade levels because of COVID numbers. It honestly feels like this happened two years ago. It’s hard to believe that was part of this school year.

The city’s splash pad at Sumuel Park opened on Saturday and these two kids were having a great time on what turned out to be a very hot day. Sumuel Park is located at 417 MLK Drive at 4th Street and also includes barbecue grills, a basketball court, free wifi, a playscape, restrooms and a walking trail.

ELVIS SIGHTING

ELVIS SIGHTING—Elvis was spotted on Thursday at Rockdale Estates & Rehabilitation and the crowd was very excited. Blue Suede Tunes’ Lynn and Cat performed a variety of Elvis tunes as well as other artists and they didn’t do any lip-syncing, it was live. This duo has performed here before and are always received enthusiastically. “Elvis” handed out his scarves to several ladies and, in this photo, he was given a lei by Doris Koerth.
