County hopes to enhance interdiction team’s work

Milam County commissioners Monday agreed to Sheriff Mike Clore’s application for a grant from the governor’s office to get equipment to help the county’s criminal intervention project. Before the vote at the court’s regular meeting in the courthouse, Clore told members what the grant would fund.

Train Day

Abe Doss demonstrated blacksmithing skills Saturday during Train Day at the I&GN Depot in Rockdale. On that day folks around the area visited to see exhibits in the museum, a scale model of Rockdale from early in the 20th century complete with trains running around it.

City OKs funds for RDA fall music fest

The Rockdale City Council voted, 4-2, to give the Rockdale Downtown Association $22,000 to help pay for the group’s Rockdale Fall Music Festival in October.

Students ‘visit’ Texas regions, historic sites

Fourth-grade students at Rockdale Intermediate School explored the crannies of the Alamo, wandered the halls of the state Capitol and got peeks of native American life at a state history museum without leaving their desks last month.

Rockdale man, 33, arrested for burglary, outstanding warrants

A 33-year-old Rockdale man was arrested on a burglary of a habitation charge at 8 a.m. on Tuesday by officer Jeremiah Harden. The man also had two warrants on him with one from the sheriff’s office for assault and the second for resisting arrest out of Williamson County.

Jail log lists all people charged with offenses through the country jail in Cameron. Charges may change during the process. Persons are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. • Richard Lewis Hill, 53, Cameron, DWI third or more, violation of parole, in custody on $5,000 bond.

Canine skills demonstration

The Rockdale Police Department has a new canine member, Roki. Roki put on demonstrations of sniffing out narcotics and tracking suspects after Monday night’s city council meeting. Here Roki and handler, officer Dillian Ford, “apprehended the suspect” played by Councilman Brett Boren. 

Deaths of Texans not wearing seat belts spikes in 2020

Despite a drop in the number of traffic crashes throughout the year, 2020 saw a spike in the number of fatalities overall and deaths of people in Texas from not wearing a seat belt. That’s why TxDOT is reminding everyone that buckling up is the best defense in a crash.

Several Milano sports camps taking place in coming weeks

There are several sports summer camps taking place at Milano ISD in the coming weeks. • There will be a Milano basketball camp from May 31 to June 3 for students entering seventh through ninth grades. The boys’ camp will be held from 8-11 a.m. and the girls’ camp is from noon-2 p.m.
