Because of all the construction downtown there was no Martin Luther King Day parade this year, however there was a balloon release celebration at Sumuel Park on Monday. “We would like to thank Cindy Cates with Tisket-A -Tasket and the Flower Shop for the balloons as well as Allen Chappel, New Hope Baptist, Springfield Baptist and New Jerusalem for the refreshments,” according to MLK Committee President Henry Miller. Even though there wasn’t an actual parade, there was still a Grand Marshall, Elizabeth Johnson, who gave the MLK speech. Music was provided by Linda Ford, and Sean Hancock, pastor at Springfield Baptist, provided the blessing. In the photo above, balloons are about tot be released. Temperatures just above freezing did not keep anyone away from the Starr family benefit held Saturday at Brookshire Brothers. Meals of pulled pork sandwiches with chips and water sold out in only two hours. They even offered drive-though service in some cases. All together 240 meals were sold and there were tables full of donated baked goods which also sold out.
Here it is the middle of January and we still have Christmas trees up. I said last week I was going to take it down and haven’t. Addy is out of school maybe I can get her to help me. Too cold to do anything outside.
