Again, another dreary weather day. Looking at the school calendar, progress reports at Gause ISD will go home to parents on March 10. Can you believe school will be out for summer vacation before you know it? I’m sure students and teachers are ready.

Rockdale’s monthly tax report takes January dip

Rockdale’s January tax returns from the state’s comptroller’s office to an early slide with receipts down by almost half a cent from the December 2020 numbers which were reported in January of this year.

Dog born with count ’em six legs doing fine, according to veterinarian

Skipper, a border collie in Oklahoma City, may go down in history, says the Association of Mature American Citizens. The puppy was one of a litter of nine pups but, unlike her brothers and sisters, she was born with six legs.

Great turnout reported for MVFD chili supper; drawing winners announced

What a great turnout to the annual Milano Volunteer Fire Department’s chili supper on Saturday. Even though the event had to be made into a “drivethrough meal” support still came from across the county to get some tasty chili and help out a great organization. (See photo, page 3A.

County Council Officers keep fun in 4-H activities

The Milam County 4-H County Council Officer team works throughout the year to put on countless events and help wherever needed. This year, the team’s activities have been limited but they are still working hard to make sure 4-H stays fun and exciting, and a great life experience for 4-H members.

Milam grand jury true-bill, no-bill cases in February

The following 57 cases were presented to the grand jury and indicted as true bills with one “no bill” on Feb. 24: • Ruben Gonzales, 49, Rockdale, state jail felony, possession of controlled substance less than one gram.

Milam Community Theater announces auditions for “Steel Magnolias”

  After a long time away due to COVID-19 Milam Community Theater has plans for the first adult performance in over a year.

Wearing mask, other cautions, encouraged to continue

On Tuesday Gov. Greg Abbott lifted the mask mandate and opened business up 100% as of March 10.  People are still, however, encouraged to wear masks by some leaders and medical experts.
