Milano VFD fundraiser set for February 20th

Milano Volunteer Fire Department is working on their annual fundraiser. The group is selling tickets for a variety of guns (in the form of Academy gift cards) for $5 each or five for $20. The drawing will be held at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 20. You need not be present to win.

Help needed getting kids to school

We are excited to start the new year at Rockdale Intermediate! As you know, we weren’t sure what the previous semester was going to bring in the midst of the pandemic but our kids and staff are resilient and it was a great semester.

This year, Milam County 4-H started their first ever Cloverbuds project group. They meet monthly on Zoom and learn about all kinds of fun projects and activities. Cloverbuds are kindergartners, first-graders and second-graders and they meet 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the second Monday of the month.

COVID-19 closed tax office

COVID-19 has closed the Milam County tax offices in Rockdale and Cameron to COVID.  Taxes can still be paid on line by credit card or by check and there is a secure drop box at the tax office in Cameron, where payments can be made.  Taxes are still due as scheduled.

Storm Spotter Training Program Scheduled for Jan. 14

The 2021 severe weather season is not too far away, and the National Weather Service and local public safety officials want you to be ready. The National Weather Service will conduct a free, virtual severe weather training class for Milam County on Jan. 14, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

2 Milam County residents die of COVID-19

 COVID-19 claims two more lives lifting the death toll in Milam County to 13. 105 individuals were tested Monday in Rockdale with 43 positive results.

Milam County will be at 50% capacity Wednesday because of COVID-19

As of Wednesday businesses in Milam County will be required to reduce their current occupancy rate from 75% to 50%. Bars will be required to close. Milam County has become an area of “high hospitalization” as defined by Governor Abbott’s Executive Order 32.

Milam appraiser is leaving office

Milam Appraisal District Chief Appraiser, Dyann White, a resident of Rockdale, is set to leave effective Jan. 4, 2021.
