Voter registration for primary runoffs

The Milam County Election Department will have extended hours for voter registration Monday (June 1), from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Primary runoffs are July 14. There is one in Milam County. Pct. 1 Commissioners Richard “Opey” Watkins faces Henry “Hub” Hubnik in the Republican Primary.

Traffic stop nets arrests for meth

Two persons were charged with possession of methamphetamine after a traffic stop last Wednesday night, according to Police Chief Thomas Harris. Arrested were Aaron Adrian Wright, 29, of Austin and 18-year-old Beth Ann Lynn Fernander of Buda.

ONE LAST TIME—It’s the end of an era. On Monday, the Rockdale Police Department gets a new chief for the first time in 20 years. Thomas Harris, who has served in that position for 20 years, the longest tenure of any Rockdale chief, is stepping down.

Milam 4-H’ers in the spotlight

During the month of May, we are highlighting our Milam County 4-H seniors graduating in 2020. We are so proud of these youth as they have worked very hard, for most of them, over 10 years in 4-H.

A recent trip to our farmers market scratched this memory out of my head the other day. One of my favorite memories took place in 2010. My combined high school and college buddies all got together for a week in Minneapolis, MN over July 4th.
