Lots of good food and fellowship at the community Thanksgiving dinner this past Sunday at Gause Baptist Church Family Life Center. Gause 4-H’ers have been collecting food for their annual food drive. This will be distributed to those in need within the Gause community.

INTERNATIONAL QUILTER

Rockdale’s, Betty Margaret Ferguson was featured at the 2018 International Quilt Festival held in Houston The festival, in its 44th year, features more than 1,600 quilts and unique works of textile art from 35 countries. Ferguson’s was one of only 18 quilts in the Texas guild division.

Christmas Round-Up items needed by Dec. 6

MILANO NEWS Milano ISD is collecting certain items for the area’s Christmas Round-Up. Each campus is accepting donations of unwrapped toys, soup of any kind, instant potatoes and canned chicken. Deadline to turn in items to MISD campus is Dec. 6.

RHS students work election voting boxes

RISD REPORT Rockdale High School Principal Tiffany Whitsel, has two special opportunities for students on her campus that she would like to share with you.

THIRD IN STATE—

The Thorndale High School Bulldog Band placed third in the UIL State Class 2A Marching Contest last Tuesday in the Alamodome. The band is directed by Michael Powers, assisted by Kendall Freeman.

Rockdale Elementary Wednesday—First Grade PLC Meeting, 7:30 a.m.; Skrhak-Byrd grocery shopping trip. Thursday—Kindergarten PLC meeting, 7:30 a.m.; Thanksgiving luncheon; Admission, review and dismissal meetings. Friday—Pre-K Thanksgiving extravaganza, cafeteria, 9:30 a.m.

Closings

Veterans Day is actually Sunday (Nov. 11), so closings will be on Monday. They include the post office, city library and financial institutions. Most businesses will be open, but some will close in honor of the holiday. Area schools remain open.

Hospital needs help, again

For the fifth time in its 44-year history, Rockdale’s hospital needs help to stay open.

Inside new PD

City council members, and guests, got their first look inside the new Rockdale Police Station in a Monday evening tour. They also got some good news. City Manager Chris Whittaker said the construction is ahead of budget and the city will be able to construct an extra carport.
