Time to choose a judge

Tuesday night Milam residents should know who their new county judge will be. Rockdale and Milam voters go to the polls Tuesday to choose between Republican Steve Young and Democrat Jared Melde, ending a campaign that’s lasted one month short of two years.

—Final totals showed the 2018 grand champion steer of the Rockdale Fair brought an all-time record $27,053.25. It was shown by Stiles Patin of the Thorndale 4-H Club. Buyers were Patin Construction, Dig Tech Inc., Superior Crushed Stone, Land Art Landscaping, APAC and Tech Line Pipe.

Who’s afraid of a little rain? Final figures on 2018 Rockdale Fair auction sales were compiled Friday and they show it was a banner year for support of area 4-H and FFA youth, despite the rain, event cancellations and wet grounds.

Senior citizens no longer ride free on ‘HOP’

You’ve heard about lines that literally go out the door? This was one Sunday in a giant benefit at the KC Hall for cancer patient Roxli Doss. The event raised $40,114.50 for 11-year-old Roxli who was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer.

Historical Society chili dinner Nov. 10 at park The Rockdale Historical Society’s annual chili dinner is set for Saturday, Nov. 10 at the New Salem Clubhouse in Fair Park. Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until sold out. Desserts will be available and there will be a silent auction during the meal.
