What a turnout!

The 53.51-percent turnout of voters in the 2018 general election represented 8,021 of Milam County’s registered 14,991 voters, according to County Clerk Jodi Morgan. That’s an all-time turnout record for Milam voters in a “mid-term” election and it’s a record by plenty.

Grant applications sought

Applications are now being accepted for preservation grants in Milam County for 2019, according to Beth Brooks, spokesperson. Applications for funding are available in Cameron at the Office of the County Judge and in Rockdale at Rainbow Courts.

Nativity displays scheduled

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will hold its annual nativity display in November and December. Over 100 nativity sets will be on display at 310 Calhoun Drive in Rockdale. Days and times are: 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 28; 3-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 29; 5-8 p.m., Friday Nov.

Burns gets ‘desserts for a year’

Malda Burns will get free monthly desserts for one year as the winner of a Matinee Musical Club fund-raiser. The “dessert of the month” fund raiser concluded with a drawing Friday during the First Friday Get-Together at the city library.

Holiday gift exchange ahead Nov. 26

There will be 4-H Members from kindergartners to seniors from all over Milam County showing off their baking and arts and crafts skills at the annual 4-H Holiday Gift Idea Exchange. It will be held at Bea’s Kitchen, downtown Cameron on the courthouse square from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 26. Nov.

Exes beef stew supper set for Friday

MILANO NEWS Milano Ex-Students Association will hold a beef stew supper prior to the high school football game Friday. Serving will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the elementary cafeteria located at the north end of the football field. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for kids 3-11 years old.
