Steve Young is Milam County Judge-Elect. Young, a Republican, out-polled Democrat Jared Melde 5,418-2,513 Tuesday to win the position being vacated by two-term Republican incumbent Dave Barkemeyer.

Funnyman Scout to visit library Nov. 17

Historical Society chili dinner ahead Saturday The Rockdale Historical Society’s annual chili dinner is set for Saturday at the New Salem Clubhouse in Fair Park. Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until sold out. Desserts will be available and there will be a silent auction during the meal.

Troopers called to area wrecks

State troopers were called to several traffic accidents in the Rockdale area during the last seven days. Trooper Ernest DelBosque said no injuries were reported at 4:38 a.m. Oct. 30 when a vehicle driven by Noe Reyes of Cameron hit a deer on US 77 near the CR 315 intersection.

Pre-dawn chase leads to arrest on four charges

POLICE REPORT A traffic stop turned into foot chase in the pre-dawn hours on Sunday, resulting in an apprehension and four charges being filed against a 43-year-old Rockdale man. Lt. Stephen Goodrich said Ofc. Jonathan Robertson stopped a vehicle around 1 a.m. when the driver fled the scene on foot.
