Milam joining opioid lawsuit

Citing fraud, “gross negligence” and possible loss of life, Milam County has joined numerous other entities in suing the makers of opioids.

—Torry Locklin and Hanna Jimenez have been named Mr. and Miss Rockdale High School for 2018. The announcement was made during Saturday night’s Prom, held in the Patterson Civic Center.

—One of the biggest Earth Day projects Friday morning was at the Mill Street skate park. Several dozen volunteers from the Rockdale Rotary Club and Rotary Interact students teamed up for extensive landscaping which included plants and putting down 40 bags of mulch.

Fourteen sentenced in district court

CAMERON—Fourteen persons were sentenced last week in 20th District Court, according to Prosecutor Bill Torrey, who listed them as follows: • Johnny Ray Smith, 37, Calvert, five-year prison term, pleaded guilty to assault bodily injury–family violence with previous conviction.

Major damages in two accidents during past week

POLICE REPORT Rockdale police investigated two highway accidents with heavy damaged on successive days Friday and Saturday. No serious injuries were reported to police but Friday afternoon “rush hour” was slowed after one of the mishaps, which involved three vehicles. That occurred at 4:07 p.m.
