With Texas high school football practice starting this past week, preparation begins for a dream every high school football player has and that is a chance to play for a state title. Coaches and players start to put in countless hours of preparations day in and day out.

The Milano Eagles held their Meet the Eagles on Thursday, with a live auction of baked goods. Lady Eagle volleyball and cheerleaders were recognized along with the football team.

The Rockdale Tigers had their fi rst practice in full pads Saturday during the intra-squad scrimmage held at Tiger Stadium. Rockdale Head Coach Hunter Hamrick said he was hap py with how the scrimmage went.

The 2025 Rockdale Lady Tiger volleyball season got under way Friday with scrim mages in Caldwell against the Lady Hornets. Rockdale Head Volleyball Coach Holly Muniz said she was pleased with the play of the team. She added that there is a real ly good core of seniors to build off of this year.

The Rockdale Tigers held their fall sports Meet the Tigers this past Friday at Tiger Gym. All fall athletes were intro duced as well as coaches and their families.

The Thorndale Bulldogs held their Meet the Bulldogs Monday evening, recognizing all the fall sports teams, as well as the band and cheerleaders. A live auction was held with David Hall as auctioneer.

YOUTH FOOTBALL

Rockdale Tiger Youth Football and Cheer started practice for the upcoming season last week with approximately 120 kids participating. This year there are four league teams, along with cheer squads, two flag teams and two tackle teams. The first games are scheduled for the first weekend in September.

Granger GOOD. Water stained; 85 degrees; 2.52 feet above pool. Black bass are good to 6 pounds. Crappie are good to 2 pounds on jigs tipped with Berkley Crappie Nibbles. White bass are fair on slab spoons fished over main lake humps. Blue catfish are good on shad and Zote soap.

WINNER— Incoming Rockdale High School junior Jeremiah Fernandez won his Texas Amateur Athletic Federation boxing tournament and placed first in his division at the 2025 Games of Texas in College Station. Fernandez won a first-place medal and a 2025 Texas Amateur Federation Ring. He is now 2-0 representing Rockdale.
