Bulldogs, Eagles fall in week 2

Records meant to be broken

Friday night was a special night for the Rockdale Tigers, as they got an ever-so-important firstgame win of the season and did it while breaking a few records along the way.

Junior varsity The Rockdale Tiger JV team began their season on Thursday at Tiger Stadium against the Smithville Tigers. Rockdale JV came out on top, 14-13, in a hardfought game. Standouts were Felix Sanchez, Trazell Miller and Ivan Facundo, Kade Lillard, Christian Reyes and Ayden Evans.

Thorndale wins ‘Battle of Hwy. 79’

THOR N DA L E—T he Thorndale Bulldogs are winners of the 2025 Battle of Highway 79. The Bulldogs defeated the Thrall Tigers 31-3 on Friday. THIS WEEK— The Bulldogs will travel to Granger to take on the 1-0 Lions at 7 p.m. Friday.

Granger GOOD. Water stained; 85 degrees; 0.25 feet above pool. Black bass are good to 5 pounds on worms and crankbaits fished around cover. Crappie are good on jigs and minnows fished over brush piles in 6-10 feet of water.

The Rockdale Lady Tiger volleyball team hosted the Thorndale Lady Bulldogs this past week and participated in the Little River-Academy Tournament.

The Thorndale Bulldogs and Lady Dogs both had good meets last week. Both varsity teams were the highest finishing squads at the 2A level. The Lady Dogs had three top 15 finishers and the JV runners also competed well.

Axtell shuts down Eagles

AXTELL—The Milano Eagles opened regular season play on Friday traveling to Axtell. The Eagles were unable to overcome an early lead by Axtell and fell, 48-0, to the Longhorns. THIS WEEK— Next up for the Eagles are the Bosqueville Bulldogs at 7 p.m. Friday in Bosqueville.

SPORTS BRIEFS

Homer R. Mowdy made a hole -in- one on Aug. 20 at hole No. 14, a 150-yard par 3 at Rockdale Country Club. Mowdy used a hybrid No. 4 wood club to sink the shot. The hole-in-one was witne s sed by Jamie Doss, John Magee, Randy Fletcher and Andy Jackson.
