Alcoa Retirees meet March 12th The first meeting of the Rockdale Alcoa retirees will be on Thursday, March 12 at 5 p.m. at The Thorndale Memorial Veterans Hall (former VFW Hall). There will be a short meeting to elect officers at 5:45 p.m. followed by dinner.

Rockdale native Ray pens first book

Rockdale native, and RHS graduate, Annie Laura Ray has written her first book. Ray’s book, “A Thief, A Servant, A Teacher, My Story: The Hidden Journal,” the story of her life, is available pre-sale through March 31, at a price of $19.99, at annielauraray.com.

Chicken salad and dessert for a meal

The other night Mom made a huge bowl of chicken salad for dinner. We ate it with some on-the-vine tomatoes she picked up at Brookshire’s. It was such a “spring-y” meal even though it was just under 50 degrees.

Milam teams win Houston ID honors

Congratulations to our Houston Livestock Show Plant ID 4-H members who competed at the Houston Stock Show on Saturday. Here are the results: Juniors Individual placings First—Jenna Lindig. Fourth—Jason Ponnaiya. Seventh—Jack Luckey. 17th—Aaron Ponnaiya. 18th—Grady Ranspot. 20th—Luke Holcombe.

Pre-K/K offers tours, planning 2020-21 term

Rockdale Elementary School would like to tell you about an exciting event that we are of fering this year to all incoming pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students. We will have our annual Roundup at the Rockdale Elementary Cafeteria. The big event will be Tuesday, April 28, from 3:45-5:45 p.m.

The last one

Monday was Rockdale City Manager Chris Whittaker’s final city council meeting in Rockdale. Mayor John King presented Whittaker with an appreciation plaque commemorating his five-year-plus tenure. Whittaker’s formal resignation was accepted Monday at the close of an executive session.

Council cancels half of May 2 election

Rockdale City Council members, meeting in regular session Monday at City Hall canceled half the May 2 city election. That would be the east ward where incumbent Denise Holmes-Wallace is unopposed for another term.

Rarely in Rockdale’s history has the community said farewell to two prominent residents, and wished a happy 9oth birthday to anothin the space of two days. But that’s what happened Thursday and Friday.
