County eyes health care task force

CAMERON—Milam County commissioners, meeting Monday in regular session in the courthouse, expressed an interest in health care becoming a countywide endeavor. Healthcare has been a major topic since the closing of Rockdale and Cameron hospitals in 2018.

Rash of accidents in area

There were a number of accidents on Rockdale-area roads during the past week. A 34-year-old Bryan man was flown to Baylor Scott & White, Temple, after an 8:55 p.m. Saturday collision on US 79 near the Milano Fire Station.

RVFD fund raiser tickets now on sale Tickets for the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department’s annual fund raising night at the KC Hall will go on sale Monday, according to spokesman Mike Korenek. The fund raiser is set for April 18. Tickets will be sold to persons on a year-to-year list.

One-Act Play advances to bi-district

Milano High School’s One-Act Play advanced from district contest on Friday during competition held at the C.H. Yoe High School Performing Arts Center. The group’s performance of scenes from “Bloody Jack” by Tim Kelly will compete next at bi-district on March 25 in Normangee.

St. Joseph’s celebrates 140th anniversary

St. Joseph’s celebrates 140th anniversary

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church celebrated its 140th anniversary on Saturday, March 7 at the KC Hall. About 275 guests attended the celebration which included a catered meal by the Knights of Columbus council #7014 and door prizes. The original Catholic Church building was built in 1880.

World Day of Prayer raises $400

Rev. Gary Veit, of Peace Lutheran Church, welcomed close to 60 worshipers from 12 different congregations to this year’s World Day of Prayer, held this past Friday morning. The women of Zimbabwe wrote this year’s 2020 service with the theme: Rise, Take Your Mat and Walk.

Gause ISD will be holding their Spring Break next week March 9-13. School will start again on Tuesday, March 17 with regular hours. There will be a track meet beginning at 3:30 p.m. on March 17.
