Meadowbrook Baptist holds grief seminar Meadowbrook Baptist Church will sponsor a weekly GriefShare recovery workshop from Jan. 13 to April 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. “This program is for people grieving the death of a family member or friend,” according to program director Malda Burns.

RCS food pantry Rockdale Christian Services operates a food pantry at 224 West Cameron Avenue, open 10 a.m. until noon weekdays. Donations of non-perishable food items are welcome, especially one-pound bags of rice, pinto beans, macaroni and cheese, canned soups and peanut butter.

Milam burn ban is lifted to start year The new year started without a rural outdoor burning ban in Milam County. County Judge Steve Young said the ban was lifted at noon on Monday. He termed the ban lifting “temporary.” Lifting of burn bans affect only the rural portions of Milam County.

New Chief Deputy named

Sheriff Chris White has announced Capt. Mike Clo-re has been promoted to the position of chief deputy. That position has been vacant since county commissioners appointed White to replace the late David Greene in 2018. White said the position remained vacant due to “budget concerns.

Arrest targets auto incident

POLICE REPORT A Taylor man was arrested on a charge of robbery the day after Christmas after an incident in which police said a subject twice tried to drive off with a vehicle even though there were children in the car. Isak Julian Yovany Castro. 22, remains in custody on $20,000 bond.
