Grand jury indictments include manslaughter

CAMERON—Forty-nine indictments were returned Thursday by a Milam County Grand Jury, including one for intoxication manslaughter. That indictment was handed down against 43-year-old Gause resident Abel Benitez-Garcia, according to Prosecutor Bill Torrey.

Stabbing death claims relative

A longtime Rockdale couple received the saddest news imaginable recently. Their 20-year-old grandson was found dead, apparently stabbed, at an Air Force Base on the island of Guam, near the middle of the Pacifi c Ocean.

New charge in cash case

A 40-year-old Rock-dale man originally arrested for DWI-third offense on March 26 after $830,000 in cash was found in his vehicle, was re-arrested last week on a new charge. Rock Eanes was arrested Thursday and charged with gambling promotion. He posted $2,500 bond and was released the same day.

Fatal wreck near Milano

A 63-year-old Bryan man died Tuesday afternoon in a one-vehicle accident near Milano. DPS Sgt. Dave Roberts said Loren Jones was killed in a 1:43 p.m. wreck near CR 380 and Nat’s just west of Milano. Sgt.

SO seizes $830,000 on 1712

It was a simple call to a vehicle parked in the middle of FM 1712. It resulted in the largest seizure of cash by law enforcement in Milam County history.

—This two-vehicle collision, which resulted in this pickup being flipped onto its side, drew a large crowd of onlookers at 4:34 p.m. Thursday at the Main-Cameron (FM 908-US 79) intersection downtown. Police said injuries to the driver, 64-year-old Daniel Griffin of Lampasas, did not appear serious.
