More first baby news and a 1924 wedding

Last week we had who we thought was the first baby of Rockdale in the paper, Kane Quinney. We got a call Wednesday morning from a new mom named Candace Timmerman saying her baby, Ella, was born two days before Kane on Friday, Jan. 5. She didn’t leave her number so I couldn’t call her back.

Thankful for that Milam County spirit

This last week has seen some harsh weather indeed. Thankfully, we were spared the precipitation that has made the cold weather unbearable and flat out dangerous in recent years, but all the same it was pretty miserable out there. Some jobs don’t take a break, even when the weather is far below zero.

100 YEARS AGO… The Reporter editor was impressed with the rush at the Rockdale post office during the holidays and, upon mentioning it to Postmaster E.I. Wade, we were invited “behind the scenes” one day and given a peep at the amount of mail matter handled, and the system used.

The 2024 Primary Election Day is fast approaching – Are You Ready? March 5 will be the primary Election Day and there are many reasons to vote. The slate is set for the primary election and there are several contested races at the primary, county, state and federal level.

100 YEARS AGO… Due to the activity of Mayor H.C. Meyer the members of the Rockdale Fire Department and their young lady sponsors were guests at a banquet given by the Rockdale businessmen on the night of Jan. 14.

2023: growth, change, repairs, an apology

As 2023 came to an end and we start anew with 2024, it’s been interesting to see how much things have changed in just one year. I appreciate all the hard work the Commissioners have put in during 2023.
